Tony Lloyd, Customer Service Advisor at Epwin Window Systems, has just reached number one in the net World Ranking for Golfers with Disability. Tony said: “This is my biggest golfing achievement to date and it means I’ve been selected for the England Elite Disabled Golf Team for the next two seasons. I make my debut this June when we head to Spain for the European Disabled Golf Team Championships and I can’t wait.”
Reaching number one is no mean feat. The World Ranking for Golfers with Disability ranks the top golfers with disability on the basis of their average performance in Counting Events over a rolling cycle of the previous 104 weeks.
Tony was born with elbow length arms due to phocomelia, a genetic disorder that caused them not to develop properly. He started playing golf as a child with his father but soon became too tall to use his clubs. Today, he plays off a handicap of 9.4 and his golf clubs have been built for him by Titleist and are long enough for him to be able to swing his clubs in the way he does. His driver, for example, is 65 inches long rather than the standard 45 inches.
Tony says his biggest achievements until reaching number one and being selected for the England Elite Disabled Golf Team was winning the Disabled French Open and individual European Disabled Open across back-to-back weekends in 2014.
When not playing golf, Tony is a valued member of the customer service team at Epwin Window Systems. “Dare I say it,” he commented, “I enjoy my job.” Clare O’Hara, Managing Director of Epwin Window Systems said: “Tony is a very popular member of the Epwin Window Systems’ team and offers our customer base great service and support.
