Swish Building Products becomes first UK cellular PVC manufacturer to receive environmental product declaration

Swish Building Products is delighted to announce that it is the first UK cellular PVC manufacturer to receive an independently verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for its cellular co-extruded profiles, covering a broad range of products including fascias, soffits, cladding and trims.

As a company, Swish continues to focus on reducing its carbon footprint to contribute to a greener future.  As part of its ongoing sustainability commitment, Swish approached the Building Research Establishment (BRE) to independently verify an EPD of its cellular co-extruded product range.

The aim of an EPD, which is based on data gathered through the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of a product, is to communicate the environmental performance and impact of that product in a concise, transparent, and comprehensible way. This enables a broad range of stakeholders to make more informed decisions when specifying and procuring cellular PVC products.

“As the industry works towards achieving a net-zero carbon future, the immediate availability of our cellular EPD is in response to the demands placed on new build and public sectors to evidence their consideration of sustainability and the environmental impact of building materials when making purchasing decisions.” explains Dave Osborne, Technical Manager at Swish Building Products.

“Although there is currently no obligation for manufacturers to provide EPDs, Swish has a well-established focus on sustainability and we have a responsibility to provide our customers with factual, independently verified information about the environmental impact of our co-extruded products.”

“BRE is a highly respected organisation in the field of sustainability and its ability to produce authoritative, well-regarded accreditations is greatly valued within the industry. As such, they have proved to be the perfect partner for the verification of our EPD.”

Dave continues: “At Swish, we have been working for years to increase the efficiency of our operations, increase our usage of post-consumer waste and to implement the most sustainable solutions in everything that we do.  Having secured our independently verified EPD, we are confident this reinforces our commitment to increasing sustainability in our market.”
